Stickerkid Review and 10% Discount {Sponsored}

                                                                   {Sponsored}

Time flies!!!
Faith will be going to Nursery 2 and Emmanuel will enter Primary 1 next year.

The fascinating thing is that Faith is starting to worry about me being alone.

Faith: " Mummy, next year I'm going to school already. Yeah!!( in excitement). Then Jie Jie and kor kor will go to their school. Then Mummy, you are very poor thing. When I go to school, you got no baby to look after already. But never mind, you just go shopping or go lunch or stay at home and watch your show. When I'm done, you come and fetch me. Then I'll be home with you again ok? I will go to school and come back quickly. You don't worry ok? "

They are growing up so fast.
Anyway, back to the main point, I am starting to get them ready for school next year. Last year, I wrote an article " Useful Tips for Preparing for Primary School" and the its first tip is to have personalised name labels for books and personal items.

This year, I'm so happy that Stickerkid provided us with the name labels for Faith and Emmanuel. After trying out the product for one month, these are the reasons why I would recommend Stickerkid.

1. Ordering is as easy as ABC

a) The ordering process took less than 10 mins of my time and it was hassle free. Hassle Free....this is seriously an important point for me because this means I don't have to bring 3 monkeys..opps.. I mean kids, physically down to the shop that I used to buy these name labels from and try to select the design I have, and then, struggle to write down the names I want printed on the stickers. Well, parents,  you perfect know what I mean and I don't have to elaborate. So yes, ordering online is as much easier.

b) Moreover, the website is super user friendly (Click to enter Stickerkid official site).

All you need to do is:

  • Select the pack that you want.
  • Type in the name you want printed on the stickers.
  • Select the colour and the font for it.
  • Click Order and then pay for it.

That is it. Simple and Easy.

Getting the kids involved is easy as well, as they just needed to tell me what colour they want and the "logo" (cartoon picture) that they would like on the sticker. Of course, Emmanuel chose his favourite animal, the Penguin.

2. Fast Delivery
What is even better is that the delivery was like super fast. I really don't know exact how fast they were. But the stickers were in my letterbox the next time I collected my mails right after my order. I was really impressed with the speed that I received these stickers. Previously when I ordered from the shop, I had to wait for 1-2 weeks to collect the name labels. So, this is really really fast..

3. Value for Money

We are always looking for things that are good and value for money. Aren't we? I would think that stickerkid is good and affordable. Considering the fact that it saved me a lot of time and it was hassle free. But there are 2 packs that I find it most value for money.

The first one is a basic pack of 94 stickers pack for just $19.95. It consists of 60 small name labels, 14 shoe stickers and 20 clothing stickers. If you are trying stickerkid for the first time and just want to test out the quality, this is the basic pack for you. Below is the link for you.

The second one is "My First Pack" of 154 stickers for $49. It consists of 32 large stickers, 14 shoes stickers, 60 small stickers and 48 clothes stickers. For more information, you can check it out at http://www.stickerkid.sg/sg_en/my-first-pack-kindergarten-stickers-labels-clothes-shoe.html

4. The stickers are very useful and attractive.

At Stickerkid, you can find stickers of different function.
They have the basic name labels for items such as water bottles, pencil case, etc... They also have shoes stickers and clothes stickers. It comes it different sizes as well. You can even print the photo of your child on the sticker. Perhaps, for preschoolers, seeing their own photo will be the best way to identify their items.

Well, for me, I didn't even think of shoes and clothes stickers. I have previously just used fabric marker to label my eldest daughter's uniform and shoes. But now, I can just iron on the clothes stickers for my son and stick the shoes stickers on. It saves me time again. For all mummies, you know how important saving time is. We all have 24 hours and with kids, time is never enough.

When the stickers arrived and I opened up the mail, my kids rushed to me because they saw that I was looking at something interesting. The colour and cartoon was what attracted them. The colour of the stickers were very bright and very attractive. Moreover, it has my son's favourite penguin inside. In fact, he doesn't want me to use those stickers and asked if he can just keep them. That is how attractive the stickers are.

Faith is happy to label her belongings.

5. Quality of the stickers
For me, quality is important. I took about a month to write this review because I want to try out the product before recommending it to other parents. I must say that the quality is impressive. As I have used other name labels before, I can confidently say that the quality of stickerkid is much better. When I peeled off the first sticker, I can already feel the difference. The label is not made of normal sticker material. Instead it is malleable and flexible. I can stretch it a little as well.

For me, I decided to put those stickers to test. I only ordered the name labels for Faith, but her schoolbag for next year is made of fabric. So, I decided to test if those normal name labels (not clothes stickers) can be used on her fabric schoolbag. To my pleasant surprise, it stuck very nicely and is still there after a month.

To test the product even further, I use the sticker meant for clothes and iron it onto Emmanuel's school bag for next year. And it works too.

Ironing on the fabric sticker onto Emmanuel's jacket is so easy. I simply set the iron to the heat for wool, I place a small sheet of baking paper above the sticker and iron it on. I took less than 10 seconds for it to stick. So easy.

For those shoes stickers, I have finally persuaded Emmanuel to try it out on a pair of sports shoes that he is wearing.

Overall, we are satisfied customers. Just look at the smile on their faces.

I will order more of these stickers for my kids.

Word Recognition Art and Game

Word Recognition for 3 year old

For Faith, I have been focusing on word recognition lately and while reading to her, I realized that like my other children at that age, she can't differentiate each individual word clearly yet. Hence, in order to help her differentiate the individual word, we did this little art and craft, and word game activity.

Basically, she used the scissors of different edges to cut out shapes. The different edged scissors just makes her shapes a little more interesting. I am encouraging her to cut paper using a pair of scissors in order to train her motor skills.

Faith used the cut out shapes to form random items.

For the butterfly, I have to help her to cut out the shape of the wings because she had great difficulty trying to cut out the shape. Yet, she insisted on making a butterfly.

After completing her art, I wrote out the sight words and the vocabulary on different coloured papers. Identical sight words are written on a specific coloured paper.

e.g. The word "This" is on green coloured paper.
The word " is" is on pink coloured paper.
The word " a" is on yellow coloured paper.
The vocabulary word/noun is on light green coloured              paper.

Through this activity, I hope to help her see that a sentence is made up of several individual words. Moreover, the sentence structure would become more apparent to her.

I mixed them up randomly and began my word game. Faith have to pick out the words that I asked for.

I asked her to identify each word to form the sentences.

After learning to recognize each word, I mixed up the words again and got her to form the sentences by herself this time round.

After getting the sentence right, she is allowed to paste the words on her art piece.

This is an easy activity for word recognition. All you need is some coloured paper, a pair of scissors and a black marker.

Simile

Simile: A simile is a direct comparison between two unlike things.

Simile can be useful to describe people or things during writing.

Natalie was doing a worksheet on this and I decided to compile a list for her for easy reference.

As fat as a pig

As crafty as a fox

As timid as a mouse

As wise as an owl

As loud as thunder

As white as snow

As proud as a peacock

As colourful as a rainbow

As cool as a cucumber

As graceful as swans

As fast as a hare

As brave as a bear

As big as an elephant

As black as coal

As blind as bat

As busy as a bee

As clear as crystal

As easy as ABC

As fresh as a daisy

As gentle as lamb

As heavy as lead

As innocent as a lamb

As light as a feather

As playful as a kitten

As quick as lighting

As regular as clockwork

As stiff as a board

As stubborn as a mule

As sweet as pie

As tall as a giraffe

As agile as a monkey

As slow as a snail

As mad as a hornet

As quick as silver

As sick as a dog

As silent as the grave

As tough as old boots

As white as a ghost

As alike as two peas

As delicate as a flower

As silly as a goose

As free as a bird

Simile- Lenka's song-"everything at once" is useful for teaching simile.
As mean as a wolf
As sharp as a tooth
As deep as a bite
As dark as the night
As long as a road
As ugly as a toad
As hard as nails
As grand as a whale
As cold as ice
As old as time
As stealthy as a tiger
As sly as a fox
As strong as an ox
As neat as a word
As quiet as a mouse

As big as a house

Before my visit, I imagined that I was going to see a sea of yellow Chrysanthemum flowers. But I was wrong. There are so many different species of Chrysanthemum and they come in many beautiful colours and shapes.

The following photographs are taken by my 3 year old when we were in the flower dome.

Beautiful flowers as the background for our photos.

We spent some time taking photographs with our own Zodiac animal.

Our only dragon girl, Faith.

Literature Based Learning - Alexander and the Wind-Up Mouse

Alexander and the Wind-Up Mouse

When we saw this book at a bookshop", I was attracted to it and when I flipped through the book, I fell in love with it immediately. The illustrations are really beautiful and the moral of this story is something I want my children to learn - " Be Thankful For Who You Are" and " Be Contented With What You Have". So immediately, I knew I found another book for our Literature Based Learning, another book with a good moral for the kids.

Character Study:
For this book, I decided that it is going to be a more art and craft based learning. So, we made Alexander, the mouse and Willy, the wind-up mouse.

We reused toilet rolls, painted it grey and added the details to make it into a mouse. Really easy.

We cut the toilet roll into this shape and use white glue to stick the sharp end together.

One of the things that caught my eye about the book was the beautiful background. Hence, we did a flower sponge painting on a piece of yellow paper.

This is the final product of the mouse and the background.

Making the Lizard.

I printed out a picture of a lizard and cut out the shape. I put the outline on top of another piece of paper and squeeze some poster colour on it and allowed Faith to use sponge to spread out the paint.

Once the paint is spread out, we remove the piece with the outline and got the shape of the lizard.

We added a big googlies eye to complete our lizard.

I used the characters that we created to talk to the children about each character. I asked them questions like - " Are they happy with what they have?" and " What kind of character are they?".  After listening to this story, the children learnt to be contented with who they are and be thankful for who they are because the lives of others may seems true and perfect, but may not necessarily be true.

I used this opportunity to educate the older children about cyber space as well. With social media platforms like facebook, it is easy to be deceived just by looking at the photos people post. Hence, what we see maybe very different from what is going on from reality. Hence, we should just be happy with what we have and with our lives, instead of envying people all the time.

The kids love to role play with the characters. Faith uses the character figures to re-tell the story.

I simply love her story telling and how she simplifies the story. From her story telling, I get to know how much she actually understands from the book.

After the art and craft session, character study and story telling, we moved on to more academic activities.

For number recognition and counting, we did 2 dot to dot activity. Faith loves counting and joining those dots. It helps her to practise her hand-eye coordination and this trains her hand muscle as well.

I also printed out a worksheet for word recognition and to practice writing.
